Once you get used to them, keyboard shortcuts are a great way to cut down on the time it takes to type, as well as reducing the stress of repetitive actions. Here are some of the dozens which would be more useful for writers.

 

  • Ctrl + C – Copy highlighted text
  • Ctrl + X – Cut highlighted text
  • Ctrl + V – Paste highlighted text
  • Ctrl + Z – Undo any change
  • Ctrl + Y – Reverse the undo
  • Ctrl + Backspace – Delete a full word (instead of a character at a time)
  • Ctrl + S – Save the file
  • Ctrl + Home – Cursor moves to the beginning of the document
  • Ctrl + End – Cursor moves to the end of the document
  • Ctrl + B – Makes text bold
  • Ctrl + I – Makes text italic
  • Ctrl + U – Makes text underlined
  • Ctrl + Esc – Opens start menu
  • Ctrl + A – Select all
